Food Sensitivity / LEAP + MRT

Do you feel like you are you eating a healthy diet, but still don’t feel well? Are you suffering from IBS, Gastroesophageal Reflux (GERD), or other digestive issues? Migraines/headaches, arthritis, fibromyalgia, eczema, sinus congestion or extreme fatigue? These are just some of conditions that can be aggravated by inflammation caused by food sensitivities. They can wreak havoc on your daily activities, your concentration at work and even your athletic performance.

What are food sensitivities?

Food sensitivities are non-allergic (non-IgE), non-celiac inflammatory responses. When you consume a reactive food, your body releases mediators such as cytokines, leukotrienes, and prostaglandins that cause inflammation and pain. Even if you are eating the healthiest foods possible, those foods may be causing inflammation for YOUR body. It can be difficult to figure out which foods you are reactive to because the symptoms of a food sensitivity may not show up for hours or days and may be dose dependent. Managing these food sensitivities starts with the identification of trigger foods and food chemicals. Enter MRT testing.

How does MRT testing work?

The patented Mediator Release Test (MRT) is a blood test designed to identify sensitive foods and food-chemicals that cause an inflammatory response in your body. It is an accurate test with 94.5% sensitivity and 91.7% specificity. 170 foods and chemicals are tested.

What is LEAP?

LEAP stands for Lifestyle Eating and Performance. After receiving your MRT results, a LEAP customized elimination diet based on the results will be created for you. You will start with your least reactive foods and re-introduce other foods as you progress through the phases. Most patients experience a 50-80% reduction in symptoms in the first 2 weeks!

Can MRT help athletic performance?

In any athlete with a condition listed above, or even with chronic fatigue, eliminating the symptoms of their condition will improve their performance.

What People Say

“I was having digestive issues that doctors were not able to resolve. By doing the MRT testing with Lindsey, we identified foods that I needed to avoid. Lindsey got me started on the LEAP program and helped me manage my diet, ultimately helping me to feel much better. She was very knowledgeable about nutrition and ingredients and helped me find foods and recipes that worked for my diet. Lindsey was patient and very responsive to my personal needs. I would highly recommend Lindsey and the LEAP program.”

“LEAP has definitely helped me maintain overall health. I looked into this diet program as a result of going a full year without being able to get my colitis under control using various medications. I was ready to try a gluten-free or dairy-free diet when I happened to talk to a dietitian who referred me to having MRT testing done and to follow the LEAP diet plan. When I cut out the reactive foods, I had almost immediate relief from my symptoms. In the past 3 years, as I’ve added foods back into my diet, I have had some relapses. At those times, I have had to add additional medication for a time while going back to my Phase 1 and 2 food items. Each time, I have been able to get back to good health again and start adding foods back in again. I would (and already have) highly recommend this LEAP to anyone who is having difficulty targeting which foods are causing their auto-immune responses to trigger.”

— Sarah M.

“When Lindsey first talked to me about doing the LEAP/MRT program to help my severe IBS, I was skeptical at first but I also didn’t want to take multiple medications to help with some of the symptoms so I gave it a try. For me, I saw 80% symptom improvement within only 3 days of starting the program, and by the time I finished phase 1 all of my IBS symptoms had completely resolved. Needless to say, this program was life changing. It has been 5 years and I am still symptom free. Lindsey was great to work with and helped me look for alternatives to vitamins and find new recipes that work with the foods I was allowed during the first 2 phases. I highly recommend working with Lindsey and going through this program to resolve your GI issues!”

— Neeley L.

“Before LEAP, I had been experiencing extreme abdominal cramping with a distended abdomen as well as loose stools with mucus. Completing the MRT + LEAP program has helped me learn that I ultimately have 4 main trigger foods, which 2 years later I continue to minimize in my diet. I now feel great and do not have symptoms. I would definitely recommend this program to others. It is extreme, but only for a short time and the results are so worth it. I would not try to do this when you are traveling or during the holidays. It does require meal prep and cooking of all meals.”

— Marlene S.

“I have two autoimmune diseases and was at a place where food sensitivity testing seemed like the next best step in the journey to feel better. Lindsey was one of the few people in the area offering the MRT testing. Prior to this, I had never worked with a nutritionist, but I feel so thankful to have had Lindsey as my first experience. She is so kind, easy to work with, patient, and very knowledgeable about all things diet and health. It was a truly great experience and is so lovely and reassuring to have someone to help guide me through all the complexities of managing my health – both now and in the future.”

— Meghan Bumgarner

“Before MRT+LEAP, I was experiencing bloating, mild to moderate abdominal pain, indigestion and irregular BMs. I was told I probably had IBS and to follow a Low FODMAP diet, which I did on my own for 1 year or so, and it worked sometimes but not consistently. I think once we found out exactly what foods I was sensitive to, it was a lot easier to follow an eating program with more precision and results. One thing that really helped me was to know what to look for/avoid in ingredient labels. Having a professional guide me through this was very helpful. It’s been a little over a month since I started the LEAP diet, and I’ve only had symptoms 3 times, and we were able to identify what were the likely causes.

I think it’s worth trying, especially if you’ve already tried other things and they don’t seem to work. Lindsey was very helpful in sharing meal ideas, recipes, websites and specific brands of foods I could eat, which, in my case, was one of the hardest things to figure out the first few days.”

— Marissa

“The symptoms that I really wanted to work on fixing were inflammation, gas, bloating, fatigue, unregulated Thyroid and weight gain. Regular dieting and eliminating different foods just didn’t work for me. After completing the MRT+LEAP program, I was no longer contantly bloated, I didn’t have to worry about having to go to the bathroom all the time, my acid reflux disappeared, and my gut issues completely resolved! Once I figured out what really upset my gut, I felt like I could manage my triggers. This program changed my life for the better! It was intense and difficult for the first 4 weeks, but once I was past that, it was great. If I can do it, anyone can!”

— Amanda Stern

“I am a registered dietitian and was interested in working with Lindsey because she could provide the LEAP MRT test. When I had the test performed and got my plan from Lindsey, I immediately got excited about the journey. She was very thorough in her approach to defining what foods would be included in the various phases of the LEAP plan and she encouraged me along by helping brainstorm ideas for what to cook and what to eat for different meals. After the first two weeks, I started to notice the absence of brain fog. In the coming weeks, after being very diligent about following my list, I started to notice an increase in energy. I found myself working around my house, inside and out, until it was time to go to bed instead of spending 1-3 hours in front of the TV after dinner. A couple of surprising perks of following Lindsey’s LEAP plan was better bladder control and increased lung capacity. This changed my life! I was able to start jogging again because of these two amazing improvements! I will be recommending this test to everyone!”

— E. Williams

“I had struggled with digestive issues (chronic constipation, IBS, pelvic pain) for YEARS. I tried numerous OTC and prescription meds with no improvement. I had also tried switching my diet on my own at home but could never find a direction correlation between food and increased symptoms. Lindsey was wonderful to work with! She was very thorough in collecting the history and offering recommendations. She checked in often and helped me sort through my food intolerances. I feel so much better and continue to work through food introductions and symptoms management. If you’ve struggle with chronic symptoms (digestive or other symptoms), it is 100% worth the time of a consult with Lindsey. She is very knowledgeable and easy to work with! I learned so much about foods and the effects on our bodies. And feeling better is definitely a bonus!!”

The Program

LEAP is a 12-Week Food Sensitivity program. Prior to starting the program, you will have blood drawn for the MRT 170 panel and then ship it to Oxford Lab in Florida for results. Once we receive your results, we will work closely with you to test your food sensitivities with the MRT test and develop a customized Food Reintroduction plan (LEAP plan) to calm inflammation, lower symptoms, and allow your body to heal. We will have 5-6 visits throughout the 12-week period, which are likely covered by your insurance company.

How it works

  • Initial Visit: We meet to dive deeper into your history and gain a better understanding of your current diet and lifestyle
  • The MRT test: once paid for, a kit will be shipped directly to you, which you will then take to any lab for the blood draw.
  • Plan Review Visit: This visit will last 60-90 minutes during which we will review your results in detail, review your LEAP food reintroduction plan, and plan out meals, snacks, and food products to get you started.
  • Follow-up Visits: We will have a follow-up visit at days 10, 20, 30, and 50 of your plan. This ensures the best possible outcome for you.
  • Food Logging: Keeping a detailed food log is required with the program. Lindsey will review your log at each meeting to ensure you are getting the best possible results from your plan. We also offer daily food log monitoring with commentary at an additional cost.

The BEST results with the MRT + LEAP are seen after 5-6 visits with Lindsey over a 3-month time span during your LEAP plan.
